The following is the essay that Ichiro, the professional baseball player wrote when he graduated from primary school (12 years old).
“My dream is to become a first-class pro-baseball player.
For that purpose, I have to play an active part in the national tournament for junior and senior high schools.
I have to practice in order to play an active part.
I started practicing when I was 3 years old. From 3 to 7 years old I practiced about half a year, and since I became the 3rd grader (of primary school) I have been doing intense practice for 360 days out of 365 days a year.
Therefore, the time when I can play with my friends is 5 to 6 hours in one week.
I am certain that I can become a pro-baseball player because I am practicing so hard.
And I will play an active part in junior and high school, and after graduating from high school, I plan to join a pro.
And as for the professional baseball team, the Chunichi Dragons or the Seibu Lions is my dream.
My goal is to join one at a draft, with the contract deposit of one hundred million yen or more.
I am confident only as a pitcher and as a hitter.
Last summer we took part in the national tournament.
I watched almost all the pitchers, and I can be sure that I am the best pitcher.
As for hitting, I hit three home runs in four games in the prefectural tournament.
And my batting average throughout the tournament was 0.583.
Thus, it was a satisfactory result for me.
And we could play baseball for one year without being defeated.
So, I will do my best like this from now on.
And when I become a first-class player and can appear in a game, one of my dreams is that I will send letters of invitation to the people who helped and supported me to come and cheer for me.
At any rate, my first dream is to become a pro-baseball player. ”
